Ms Tisa Ho, Executive Director of HKAF said, “Supporting local creation is a major focus of the Festival. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the two productions, among whom include all creative and production team members, cast members, sponsors and donors of our New Works Scheme, as well as members of the audience who attended our performances. With continuous support from the community, I look forward to staging more exciting new works in the years to come. “

A modern love epic, The Truth about Lying dissects the equivocations behind marriage break-ups. Playwright Wong Wing-sze and Co-director Lee Chun-chow who also starred in the play, joined cast members Lo Koon-lan, Mercy Wong Wai-chi, Joey Leung Cho-yiu and Shaw Mei-kwan to explore with the audience the truth about lying.

Inspired by Tong Tik-sang’s The Legend of the Purple Hairpin, The Liaisons was written by Alan Mak Siu-fai and Felix Chong Man-keung, with concept from Fredric Mao Chun-fai, director of this musical theatre production. A co-production with the Fredric Mao Theatre Projects starring Tse Kwan-ho and Josie Ho Chiu-yee, The Liaisons was premiered at the Hong Kong Arts Festival in March 2010 and was subsequently invited to perform at the 2010 Shanghai Expo, as well as in Beijing and Shenzhen.

Directors of the two productions, Fredric Mao and Lee Chun-chow, thanked the Hong Kong Arts Festival for providing such a wonderful creative and performance platform for local artists.

HKAF New Works Scheme
The HKAF New Works Scheme invests in local works and builds a foundation for the performing arts by commissioning or producing new works each year, including the publication of new scripts. The 2009 HKAF commission and production, Murder in San Jose, won four major awards at the 2009 Hong Kong Drama Awards. Receiving rave reviews from the media and audiences, the production was re-staged in the 2010 and 2011 HKAF, before an invitation to perform in Singapore’s Esplanade in April 2011.
