Speech by Tisa Ho, Executive Director of Hong Kong Arts Festival at the 40th HKAF Kick-off Press Conference on 3 October 2011

October 03rd, 2011

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to join the Chairman in thanking you for your presence here today. As you have seen and heard, there is a wealth of choice and something for everyone in the 40th HKAF.

The team has worked hard to put this festival together; we now rely on you to help get the word out.

All programme information is available on our website and on the iPhone app. And while on the subject of e-platforms, I am delighted to let you know that the new Festival scripts we have been publishing in the last few years are now available in e-book form. This is an additional platform for Hong Kong’s talented artists, and we hope it will help our playwrights reach larger audiences worldwide. Also for the first time, the house programmes will be available online a few days before each performance.

For audiences in mainland China, we have extended our ticketing services to include a new Cash On Delivery service facilitated by Cityline. This is a new initiative. It takes into account the increasing ease of access and travel to Hong Kong especially from Southern China, and helps lay the ground for more intensive future development.

In celebration of our 40th year we have a special treat for all Festival fans. Fabulous Festival t-shirts have been designed by Barney Cheng and will be available at the Festival information counter from December 2011.

As ever, the Festival team has an eye on the future and future heritage in its actions today, while being mindful of traditions that have come to us from the past. This includes everyone who has helped the Festival in the last 39 years, as well as everyone contributing to the Festival today, including those present for this launch of the 40th HKAF.

Thank you very much.
