The 41st Hong Kong Arts Festival 2013 : Previews highlights and launches all-new Early Bird Booking Package

The Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) previews highlights of the 41st HKAF 2013 and launches an all-new Early Bird Booking Package for three selected programmes available from 27 July to 20 August 2012. The full line-up of the 41st HKAF, to be held from 21 February to 22 March 2013, will be announced on 8 October 2012 and Advance Bookings for all programmes will open in early October.
Programmes available for preview include:
OPERA - Verdi’s opera La Traviata, Cimarosa’s opera Il Marito Disperato and the celebratory concert Viva Verdi performed by Europe’s oldest working theatre the San Carlo Theatre, Naples; Einstein on the Beach, an Opera in Four Acts by Robert Wilson and Philip Glass; the Festival’s commissioned local production Heart of Coral, a new chamber opera based on the life of writer Xiao Hong (1911-1942).
MUSIC – Concerts by Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in late January; Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble under the baton of Marc Minkowski; the Australian Chamber Orchestra led by Richard Tognetti; viol master Jordi Savall; concerts by gifted jazz musician and 2011 Best New Artist Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding; as well as performance by Ladino singer and world music diva Yasmin Levy.
DANCE - The Festival’s official opening performance: American Ballet Theatre’s Dance Gala Programme 1 (Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes, Shostakovich- Symphony No 9 and classical pas de deuxs), followed by Dance Gala Programme 2 (The Leaves Are Fading, The Moor’s Pavane and Symphony in C) and Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan; the much-anticipated return of MOMIX’s full-length production Bothanica.
THEATRE - London theatre 1927’s mind-blowing multi-media work The Animals and Children Took to the Streets; David Henry Hwang’s witty romantic comedy Chinglish; gravity-defying theatre LEO by Circle of Eleven; Mission Drift on American Capitalism by the TEAM; UK National Theatre’s smash-hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors; Empress Dowager Cixi and Princess Deling by the China National Peking Company; the Festival’s commissioned National Theatre of China production of Green Snake directed by Tian Qinxin.
EARLY BIRD BOOKING PACKAGE
For the first time, the HKAF offers an Early Bird Booking Package for three selected programmes: Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the American Ballet Theatre and La Traviata by San Carlo Theatre, Naples. Special discounts of at least 10% will be offered for those who subscribe to three or more selected performances from 27 July to 20 August 2012. Bookings will be accepted by post, fax or on the HKAF website (www.hk.artsfestival.org).
BOOKINGS and PROGRAMME INFORMATION
The Festival Highlights Brochure and Early Bird Booking Package form will be available at all URBTIX outlets from 27 July. HKAF website at www.hk.artsfestival.org, an updated version of the 2013 iPhone App and an all-new Android App with programme information, along with audio and vdeo clips of the Festival highlights will also be available from 27 July.
