The 46th Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2018
Advance Bookings start 11 October 2017

(Hong Kong, 9 October 2017)   Today the Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) announces details of the forthcoming 46th HKAF. Featuring over 1,700 outstanding international and local artists in 130 performances and over 300 complementary outreach and education activities, the Festival will run from 23 February to 25 March 2018. [Please refer to factsheet for statistics and programme introduction]

“The Hong Kong Arts Festival continues to be an annual highlight for Hong Kong, and highly anticipated by the most discerning audiences both in this city and in the region.

“In addition to organising these wonderful performances for our enjoyment next Spring, the Festival is also committed to making a long term impact on audience development and in artistic development. We therefore include a wide array of outreach and educational activities, and also offer an important platform for local artists.

“None of this would be possible without the support of our community. I must thank the many individuals, foundations and corporations whose contributions in the form of sponsorship and donations enable us to serve Hong Kong. I must express appreciation to the Hong Kong Government for its continued support. And the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust deserves a special mention for its strong and sustained partnership,” said Mr Victor Cha, Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Festival.

“In the 46th HKAF, we take the notion of ‘what’s real to me’ to celebrate the realities created and communicated through the artistry, creativity and thoughtfulness of our participating artists as they reflect upon society of the day, on humanity as a whole, and on the art which they practice.  Additionally, we want to highlight the role of the audience as active co-creator and partner to the artist, making what is experienced in performance real, meaningful and mutually reinforced.  And, in the magical way in which great performances work, this deeply personal and unique experience is also shared with everyone present, thus creating another level of what’s real – both to the individual and to the collective ‘me’. ” said Ms Tisa Ho, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Arts Festival.

The budget of the 46th Festival is approximately HK$125 million. Secured government baseline funding for the Festival in 2018 represents roughly 14% of HKAF’s total income. Around 32% of the Festival’s income is expected to come from the box office, and another 36% needs to come from sponsorship and donations from corporations, individuals, and charitable foundations. It is anticipated that the remaining 18% will come from other revenues, including the Government’s pilot matching scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorships and donations.
